How have I never blogged about this session? Honestly, that’s a great question—and one I’ve been wondering myself! It’s time to finally share one of my absolute favorite experiences with you all. Last year, I had the privilege of working with Shelly, an award-winning interior designer based right here in Pinehurst, NC. When Shelly reached out to me about scheduling in-home headshots, I was immediately excited. Not only because I adore working with creative professionals, but also because Shelly’s work had already caught my eye long before we connected.

As a professional headshot photographer in Moore County, NC, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with some truly talented individuals. But when Shelly mentioned that she was an interior designer, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and honor. After all, Shelly’s designs have been featured in a variety of prestigious national and local magazines, and she has won numerous awards for her work. To say I was thrilled when she chose me to capture her headshots is an understatement!

When we first spoke about her upcoming session, Shelly mentioned that she was looking for a very specific vibe for her headshots—something that reflected both her professional expertise and her personal style. We talked about using her beautifully decorated home in Pinehurst as the backdrop for the session. This was a fantastic idea, as it allowed us to incorporate her own design aesthetic into the photos, creating a more authentic and personalized experience.

As a headshot photographer in Pinehurst, I love helping my clients express their unique brand and personality through their photos. For a professional like Shelly, whose work is all about creating beautiful, functional spaces, the setting of her session had to align with her design philosophy. The idea of using her home, which was a reflection of her impeccable style, felt like the perfect way to showcase her talents and approachability.

We spent some time discussing what Shelly envisioned for the session. She wanted her headshots to be modern and professional, yet warm and welcoming. She was also interested in capturing a few candid moments to highlight her personality, which is something I always strive to do in my headshot sessions. When you book a session with me, I want to ensure that your photos are not only polished but that they also show off the authentic version of yourself. That way, you’re not just another face in a crowd—you’re a person that clients, employers, or collaborators can connect with on a deeper level.

The day of the shoot arrived, and I was excited to see Shelly’s gorgeous home up close. Let me just say, it did not disappoint! From the stunning furniture pieces to the carefully curated décor, it was clear that Shelly’s design expertise shone through every inch of her space. This made it the perfect setting for her headshots. We started with some classic, professional shots against neutral backdrops to capture the polished and sophisticated side of Shelly’s brand. These types of images are perfect for websites, portfolios, and social media profiles, especially for professionals in the creative industries like interior design.

One of my favorite parts of the session was when we took some photos that incorporated Shelly’s design elements. Whether she was standing near a beautiful feature wall, sitting in a stylishly arranged living room, or interacting with some of the decor, these photos spoke to her unique style and the heart of her work. I always encourage my clients to bring a piece of themselves into their headshots—whether that’s a prop, a specific backdrop, or a setting that speaks to what they do. For Shelly, her home was her canvas, and it made for the most beautiful and meaningful headshots.

What I loved most about working with Shelly was her confidence and ease in front of the camera. It’s always important to me as a headshot photographer to make sure my clients feel comfortable, relaxed, and at ease during their session. After all, a great headshot is not just about the technical aspects of lighting and composition—it’s about capturing a real moment that shows off your personality. Shelly’s natural grace and charm really came through in every shot, which made the editing process that much more exciting. We were able to select a variety of photos that showcased her in different lights, from more formal business shots to more casual, approachable images. This gave her plenty of options to use across her website, social media, and even in press opportunities.

The result of the session was a set of headshots that not only reflected Shelly’s incredible professionalism and expertise but also gave a glimpse into her personal style and creative energy. It was an absolute honor to be trusted with capturing such an integral part of her personal brand.
