Product Photography with Aylev’s Gel Highlighters
Some shoots just feel instantly fun the moment they hit the studio table, and this one was exactly that. I recently photographed a new set of gel highlighters for one of my regular clients, the amazing Aylev company, and it ended up being one of those sessions that reminds me why I love product photography so much. Colorful images are something I always enjoy creating, and these markers gave me plenty to play with.
Aylev came to me needing clean on white imagery, texture shots, and some creative variations that would show off the smooth, creamy strokes of their highlighters. When a brand’s product is already bright and cheerful, my job is to showcase that energy in a way that feels polished, intentional, and true to the product. So we built a session around clarity, color, and a bit of controlled creativity. Colorful product photography is one of my favorites.

Clean on White Simplicity
On white photography is one of my specialties. It looks simple at first glance, but it actually requires careful lighting, attention to detail, and consistency across every single image. These highlighters photographed beautifully on a pure white background, and the colors instantly popped without needing heavy edits or manipulation. The goal is always the same: create images that feel crisp, bright, and ready for e-commerce listings or marketing materials.

Playing with Color and Texture
Along with the classic product angles, we incorporated some fun close-ups to highlight the textures of the gel. Highlighters are meant to be playful, so it only made sense to add a few squiggles and curved strokes into the mix. These small creative touches help bring personality into the gallery without distracting from the clean, professional look that Aylev needed.
This part of the session is always my favorite. When colors start overlapping or when the ink catches the light just right, it adds a visual energy that makes the final gallery feel complete. It is a simple product, but simple products often photograph the best when there is room to let color be the star.

Why Product Photography Matters- Colorful, Monochrome, all of it
Whether I am shooting highlighters, apparel, skincare, or anything in between, the goal is always to create images that help your product make a great first impression. Clean, consistent photography builds trust with your audience, and playful variations give your brand personality. Sessions like this one with Aylev are a perfect example of how even everyday items can become eye catching and scroll stopping with thoughtful styling and lighting.
